Susan has a BS in Animal Sciences from Penn State University and thoroughly enjoys enlightening students about the world of biology. Having lived and worked in South America for a number of years, she is also passionate about teaching Spanish. For the past eight years, Susan has been teaching classes in these areas, including biology dissection labs, as well as privately tutoring biology, Spanish, history, English and composition. With a recently acquired TESOL certification from Cal State, Susan enjoys helping ESL students improve their writing skills. She also successfully home-schooled her own four children, the oldest of whom is now a History Professor in Virginia. Her philosophy for all her students is to help them catch a flame of passion for learning.

Susan is a patient, knowledgeable and engaging tutor who instills a love for authentic learning. My freshman has never wanted or had tutors before.... She LOVES Susan and looks forward to her weekly essay writing lessons. Susan has inspired my daughter to ENJOY reading 'high school'-assigned literature (I can't believe it). And my daughter shocked me the other day by saying, "I want to take AP English," and she also said to me, "If I were a teacher, I would teach English."

We have used Gaskin Tutoring Services for two years and our tutors, Sarah and Susan, have been excellent. They have tutored my two high school sons in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry and 9th and 10th grade English/writing. Their knowledge is very strong in their respective areas and they have been able to engage with the boys and give them good guidance. We had them tutor at our house, which was very convenient for us.

Susan's tutoring was invaluable for our son, giving him an approach to the reading and writing portion of the SAT--enabling him to be calm and confident going into the test. She was kind and engaging with our teenager and we highly recommend her.
